The Wild West History Association hosts its 2026 Annual Roundup in Albuquerque, July 15–18, set against the backdrop of the Route 66 Centennial. This year’s gathering brings writers, historians, authors, and enthusiasts together along the Mother Road for four days of presentations, tours, exhibitions, and special events.
The Roundup kicks off with a free public talk by Route 66 author and WWHA Board Member Michael Wallis at the Albuquerque Museum on July 15, including access to the museum’s Route 66 Centennial exhibit. Additional displays include artifacts from the TT Hagaman Southwest Collection, highlighting early Ozark Trail history leading into Route 66.
Self-guided tours along New Mexico’s Route 66 corridor—from Tucumcari to Santa Rosa, Las Vegas, and Fort Sumner—invite attendees to explore historic sites tied to Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and early Western settlement. The Fort Sumner Chamber of Commerce will also host a special gallery event honoring Billy the Kid.
Conference sessions take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, featuring a diverse slate of speakers and presentations in a resort-style setting with views of the Sandia Mountains. Open to history fans of all ages, the 2026 Roundup offers a unique blend of Wild West heritage and Route 66 Centennial celebration in one of New Mexico’s oldest and most storied cities.
