Join the community for the official ribbon cutting and rededication of the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge—a 1902 steel truss landmark that has stood watch over Springfield for more than a century.
Recently restored and newly illuminated in red, white, and blue, the bridge now shines as both a historic treasure and a renewed symbol of connection. Stretching above the rail lines below, it reflects Springfield’s transportation heritage and the spirit of movement that has defined the city—from the age of railroads to the rise of Route 66.
This free ceremony marks a meaningful moment in the Route 66 Centennial weekend, linking the Mother Road, America’s 250th Birthday, and more than 120 years of local history.
