Every August, Gallup, New Mexico, hosts one of the nation’s oldest and most celebrated events honoring Native American arts and culture – the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. This historic event, first held in 1922, brings together thousands of Native American and Indigenous participants to share their rich traditions through art, dance, music, rodeo, and much more at Red Rock Park.
The Traditional Night Performances feature vibrant dances and ceremonies from tribes such as the Aztec, Hopi, Navajo, Sioux, and Zuni, showcasing both traditional and contemporary Native American dance styles. The event also includes the Contest Pow Wow, with competitions for all ages and various categories of dance and singing.
Art lovers will be captivated by the juried art show and the Exhibit Hall, where authentic Native American art including jewelry, rugs, paintings, and more can be viewed and purchased. Plus, the Opening Night Gala offers a wine tasting and live music against the stunning backdrop of the red rocks.
Don’t miss the legendary rodeo, open to the world and featuring classic events like bull riding, barrel racing, and steer wrestling, along with thrilling activities like Wild Horse Races and Ladies Steer Riding.
