Discover a once-lost photographic history of early Route 66 travelers at Faces of the Mother Road, a new exhibition debuting January 2026 in downtown Tulsa. Featuring restored glass negatives taken in Afton, Oklahoma, between 1913 and 1943 by photographer S.J. Tyler, this remarkable collection showcases everyday people—locals, workers, and travelers—captured along the corridor that would become the Mother Road.
Presented in partnership with the Route 66 Alliance and historian Michael Wallis, the exhibit opens during the First Friday Art Crawl at 101 Archer before beginning its journey as a traveling show along Route 66 communities. This rare glimpse into early 20th-century life offers a powerful blend of art, history, and cultural storytelling.
