Celebrate 100 years of America’s most iconic highway with a race that blends fitness, history, and classic Route 66 spirit. The Centennial Route 66 5K takes place at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, starting and finishing at the Route 66 Experience near Gate 2.
The race begins promptly at 8:00 a.m., launching runners into a scenic loop through the fairgrounds—surrounded by vintage signage, roadside nostalgia, and the unmistakable energy of the Mother Road.
At approximately the 1K mark, participants enter the legendary Illinois State Fair Grandstand Track for a full one-mile lap. This historic oval has hosted generations of racing legends, concerts, and State Fair memories. During the race, your official one-mile split time will be recorded, giving runners a unique benchmark within the 5K.
After completing the track loop, runners exit and continue along a clearly marked course around the fairgrounds before finishing back at the Gate 2 Route 66 Experience. All key turns will be well marked and staffed by course marshals.

All finishers will receive a custom-designed Centennial Route 66 5K medal. Awards will be presented to top overall finishers and age-group winners in five-year increments, offering competitive opportunities for runners of all ages and abilities.
