A Regal Welcome to the Mother Road: Queen’s Gate 66 Landmark Dedication
May 1 @ 11:00 am CDT
FreeSpringfield’s eastern gateway is getting a bold new landmark. Rising along St. Louis Street just west of Glenstone Avenue, the planned Queen’s Gate 66 monument will stand as a striking tribute to Springfield’s role as the Birthplace of Route 66.
Designed to reach nearly 30 feet high, the crown-inspired structure symbolizes more than royalty. Its sunburst form represents light radiating from the place where the Mother Road was named in 1926. Illuminated at night, Queen’s Gate 66 will greet travelers arriving from the east with a clear message: this is where the journey began.
Located near the historic Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven—a classic Route 66 lodging stop in its own right—the monument will serve as both a welcome sign and a photo-worthy reminder of Springfield’s foundational place in Route 66 history.
The project is funded by the State of Missouri, with special thanks to the southwest Missouri legislative delegation: Senator Lincoln Hough, Gordon Elliott, and Dale Replogle.
