Visit the final resting place of the sixteenth president and his family at The Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois.

Abraham Lincoln, his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, and three of their four sons, Edward, William, and Thomas are buried in the granite monument at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield (Robert, the eldest, is buried in Arlington National Cemetery). Outside a large obelisk marks the monument and inside a marble rotunda that leads to the burial room features many many bronze statues of the president. The memorial celebrates the president’s accomplishments, contributions to the country, and those who struggled with him toward a new birth of freedom.

The monument was designed by sculptor Larkin Mead in 1874, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.

Outside, a the entrance to the Tomb, is a large bronze bust of Mr. Lincoln, a recasting of Gutzon Borglum’s marble bust that is found in the U.S. Capitol. Here, visitors coming from around the world rub his Lincoln’s lucky nose for good luck.
