Santa Monica Pier Bait and Tackle isn’t just for anglers, it’s the “Last Stop Shop” on Route 66. Sitting at the far west end of the Santa Monica Pier, this spot offers everything from pole rentals, bait, and tackle to Route 66 souvenirs, postcards, and magnets. It’s also a great place to grab a cheap battle of water or can of soda without paying full pier prices.

More than just a fishing store, the shop doubles as a tribute to the Mother Road. Outside, don’t miss the giant collage honoring both the end of Route 66 and the late Robert “Bob” Waldmire, the beloved artist and cartographer whose detailed drawings of the highway have become iconic.

Know Before You Go

To make the most of your visit to Santa Monica Pier Bait and Tackle in Santa Monica, California, here are some things to know before you go.

Where is Santa Monica Pier Bait and Tackle located?

Santa Monica Pier Bait and Tackle sits at the west end of Santa Monica Pier and is commonly known as the Last Stop Shop on Route 66 because it will be the furthest souvenir shop you will find. (Address: 404 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401) Walk in from the main entrance and follow the boardwalk all the way to the end. The business will be the final shop on your left.

Is this the official end of Route 66?

Not exactly. The Santa Monica Pier is considered the unofficial end of Route 66, but it has become the place most travelers choose to celebrate finishing the journey. With food, games, rides, and that sweeping Pacific Ocean view, it’s a fitting finale to the Mother Road.

When Route 66 was established in 1926, the official western terminus was in downtown Los Angeles. In 1936, the route was realigned to end at Olympic Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica (that’s the recognized official endpoint and you can still find an end sign and begin sign there).

The Santa Monica Pier remains the symbolic finish line where most road trippers pose with the famous End of the Trail sign and shop for their final souvenirs!

What services are offered?
  • Fishing gear: Rentals of fishing rods, and sales of bait, tackle, hooks, sinkers, etc.
  • Local know-how: Staff can advise what’s in season and where to fish.
  • Souvenirs: Everything from Route 66 keepsakes, postcards, magnets, tees, to beach-themed trinkets.
  • Drinks: cold waters and sodas.
Where can you park near the Santa Monica Pier?

Parking is available right on the pier deck (limited hours, Monday–Thursday), or in nearby beach lots ($7–$18 per day) that run from sunrise to sunset. For longer visits, try the Civic Center Garage or downtown Santa Monica parking structures, which offer the first 90 minutes free. Metered street parking is also available throughout the city. If you’d rather skip driving, the Metro E Line drops you just a short walk from the pier or you can walk from any nearby hotel. Find more parking information here.
