Route 66 Neon Park in St. Robert, Missouri, is where the past lights up the present, literally. Nestled in George M. Reed Roadside Park in the Ozarks, this roadside attraction brings vintage neon signs from Missouri’s stretch of Route 66 back to life, glowing just like they did in their heyday.

It’s the first park of its kind in the state, featuring a growing collection of restored neon signs that once flickered outside motels, diners, garages, and more from St. Louis to Joplin. Each one was rescued from storage, scrap heaps, or fading facades, restored by dedicated preservationists, and now shines for a new generation of road trippers. Soon, on-site storyboards will tell the story behind each sign so you can learn a little history while soaking in the glow.

This project came together thanks to the efforts of groups like Friends of the Mother Road, Inc., Missouri State Parks, the Route 66 Association of Missouri, and other passionate Route 66 fans who didn’t want the lights to go out on this piece of Americana. The park held its official lighting ceremony on May 9, 2025, and now you can see the neon magic for yourself..

Here’s a look at the signs currently lighting up the St. Robert Route 66 Neon Park:

  • Route 66 Neon Park Sign
A brand-new sign at the park’s entrance welcomes visitors with “Welcome to St. Robert Route 66 Neon Park” and a bright red arrow guiding you in. It sets the tone for the glowing journey ahead.
  • The Al-Pac Motel Sign
Once located east of Pacific, Missouri, this sign lured in travelers with the promise of good food. It was saved by the Route 66 Association of Missouri and handed over to Missouri State Parks, where it now serves up a generous helping of nostalgia.
  • Alura Motel Sign
This beauty features rare “triple stroke” neon lettering and once lit up a late-1940s motel near St. Louis. After spending years at Henry’s Rabbit Ranch, it landed in Neon Park thanks to Friends of the Mother Road, Inc.
  • D & G Liquor Sign
A hometown favorite, this sign originally lit up St. Robert until 2009. Greg and Jolanta Chmura restored and donated it, and it was the first to glow again in the park—right back where it belongs.
  • Modern Cabins Sign
Originally perched atop a building just down the road at 515 Ole Route 66, this sign was tucked away in storage for decades before being revived in 2015. Now it’s shining again for curious passersby.
  • Motel St. Louis Sign
Also known as the “Motel Beautiful,” this sign advertised 44 modern units and even airport shuttle service. Thanks to the Route 66 Association of Missouri and the Missouri History Museum, it lights up once more after years in hiding.
  • Scully’s Restaurant & Motel Sign (Coming Soon)
This sign comes from the former Scully’s Sunset Inn in St. Clair. After some DIY modifications by the Scully sons and years of neglect, it’s been restored and is ready to return to the spotlight soon.
  • Skyline Garage Auto Service Sign
A newer addition from a well-known St. Robert auto shop. The city restored it in 2023 to show that even more recent local history deserves a little neon love.
  • Stanley Cour Tel Sign
Built in 1950 in St. Louis, this motel sign has a special claim to fame—it once hosted astronauts from Project Mercury. It’s now preserved and glowing again thanks to a donation from Dr. Joel Braunstein and Friends of the Mother Road, Inc.
  • Tri-State Bonding Sign
From Carthage, Missouri, this sign is hard to miss with its cartoon jailbird. Once advertising a bail bond business, it’s now out on good behavior and ready for photos at the park.

Route 66 Neon Park is a glowing tribute to the roadside culture that gave Route 66 its charm. Whether you stop by in the daytime or after dark, you’ll get a bright reminder of why this road continues to shine.
