The Route 66 Marathon Service Station in Miami, Oklahoma, is one of the more distinctive vintage gas stations still standing along  Route 66.

Built in 1929 by Transcontinental Oil, the station sits on a prominent corner along Main Street, once the main alignment of Route 66 through town. Its location gave it strong visibility during the highway’s busiest years, when traffic flowed straight through downtown.

Not long after it opened, Marathon Oil acquired Transcontinental, and the station took on the Marathon name and logo, featuring the Greek runner Pheidippides and the slogan “Best in the long run.”

The building itself stands out for its Neoclassical Revival design. Made of white glazed brick, it features a front-gabled structure with a full-height portico supported by large classical columns. A canopy extends over the old service area, once lit by rows of exposed bulbs to guide drivers in at night.

The station operated for years before eventually closing as a gas station, later housing different businesses. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. In more recent years, the building has seen new life. After a period of vacancy, it was purchased and preserved, and today it operates as a roadside attraction and AirBNB.
