The Route 66 Car Museum in Springfield, Missouri is a privately owned collection of more than 75 classic automobiles, sports cars, and celebrity vehicles spread across 20,000 square feet right on the historic Route 66 alignment.

The collection was built by Guy Mace, who bought his first Jaguar in 1990 and has been adding to the collection ever since, with a focus on sports cars and classics spanning from the early 1900s through the 1990s. The museum opened to the public in 2016 and today represents more than a century of automotive history, from brass-era relics to movie cars.

Some of the standout pieces are genuinely hard to find anywhere else. The 1936 Horch is one of approximately 50 sold to the German government in 1937 for use by military general officers. Stored in South Dakota for more than 50 years, it remains 100 percent original and took second place in the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Prewar Preservation Class. The 1933 Auburn 12 and the 1926 Kissel Brougham are both National First Prize winners from the Antique Automobile Club of America. The collection also includes seven Jaguars, two Rolls Royces, and a 1963 Morgan that once belonged to Desert Storm General Norman Schwarzkopf.

The celebrity and movie cars are a highlight in their own right. The famous truck from the Henry Fonda film The Grapes of Wrath is here, as is the Gotham Cruiser (the 1979 Batmobile), and a 1991 Ghostbusters Ectomobile. The collection spans brass and pre-war era cars from 1907 to 1939, post-war classics from the 1940s and 1960s, and modern-era vehicles from the 1970s onward,  including a 1970 Chevy Camaro Pro Street and a 1981 Rolls Royce Corniche.

A gift shop on site carries Route 66 memorabilia, die-cast cars, and collectibles. It’s a natural pairing with the College Street Cafe next door, which shares the parking lot. Whether you’re a serious car enthusiast or just appreciate a good piece of history, the Route 66 Car Museum is worth the stop.

The museum owner has announced that he plans to close the museum on April 17, 2027, so plan to visit while you still can!
