The Rosie the Riveter Giant is one of the latest roadside attractions to step into Tulsa Route 66’s Land of the Giants.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, has a strong connection to Rosie the Riveter, the iconic symbol of the millions of women who stepped into factories and workshops to support the World War II effort. While “Rosie” represents a nationwide movement, several real women from Tulsa helped bring that story to life. Marina Metevelis built B-17 and B-25 bombers during the war. Naomi Parker Fraley, who was born in Tulsa, went on to inspire the famous “We Can Do It!” image that came to define the era. Other local women, including Delora Simpkins Mealor and Inez Vitato Fuchs, contributed through aircraft maintenance and parts work, playing essential roles behind the scenes. Together, their stories reflect the determination, skill, and spirit that made Rosie the Riveter a lasting symbol of empowerment and a meaningful part of Tulsa’s Route 66 history.

The Rosie the Riveter Giant honors this local legacy in a big way. This roadside attraction’s custom design is based on the classic Uniroyal Gal, made in the 1960s by International Fiberglass in Venice, California, the feminine counterpart to the Muffler Man was originally created to advertise Uniroyal Tires. The 19-foot tall statue wears a blue jumpsuit (complete with a yellow “We Can Do It!” button) and a signature red bandana in her hair. In a stray from this type’s usual arm position, her left arm is turned inward, flexing a muscle, while in the right she carries a rivet gun.

The statue was commissioned by Mary Beth Babcock, the woman who is responsible for several roadside attractions and souvenir shops on the same stretch of Tulsa Route 66. It was crafted by Mark Cline of Enchanted Castle Studios, with a tool make by Josh Waddell of 3 Bulls UPcycling.

Find Rosie in front of The Pearl Shops and across the street from Ike’s Chili. She is the fifth fiberglass giant to land on this stretch Tulsa Route 66, which has earned the nickname Land of the Giants. She joins the Buck Atom Space Cowboy Muffler Man, Stella Atom Space Cowgirl Uniroyal Gal, Meadow Gold Mack, and Cowboy Bob.

What is a Uniroyal Gal? What other Uniroyal Gals can you find on Route 66?

Muffler men roadside attractions are fiberglass giants who stand anywhere from 14 to 25 feet tall. Each has a similar design and was built between 1963 and 1972 by International Fiberglass in Venice, California. With signature stances, these big men stood outside of muffler shops and other businesses to call attention from the road. As advertising icons, these fiberglass giants often held specific props or tools, reflecting the businesses they represented, whether it was a muffler, axe, hot dog, or other specialty item.

In the 1960s International Fiberglass also produced a female version, now known as The Uniroyal Gal. These giant women were originally commissioned by Uniroyal Tires to stand outside and advertise their businesses. Thought to be inspired by Jackie Kennedy, the Uniroyal Gal was more of a fashion icon, and came with a choice of outfit: a skirt or a bikini.

You’ll find several of these towering legends standing tall along the Mother Road from Illinois to California. Each one has its own name, theme, and story. Find a full list of Route 66 Muffler Men and Uniroyal Gals here.
