Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner in Yermo, California, isn’t right on Route 66, but it’s only a short detour away and the quirky diner has become a popular stop for travelers exploring the Mother Road or making their way to Las Vegas. Built in 1954 from railroad ties and mortar salvaged from the nearby Union Pacific rail yard, the diner originally had just three booths and nine counter stools. In the 1980s, Peggy Sue and her husband Champ brought it back to life, restoring the building and filling it with their collection of movie and TV memorabilia. Today, it’s as much a nostalgic attraction as it is a place to grab a bite to eat.

From the moment you walk through the giant jukebox-shaped entrance, you’re immersed in a 1950s atmosphere. Betty Boop greets guests at the door, the waitresses wear vintage-style uniforms, and every wall is covered with Hollywood posters, photos, and quirky memorabilia. Different areas feature themes like the Blues Brothers, Elvis, and the Wizard of Oz, , and the menu keeps the spirit alive with diner classics named after stars—think Buddy Holly burgers, Bob Denver omelettes, or Elvis-inspired shakes. Meals come with curly fries, potato salad, or other old-school sides, and it’s always worth saving room for a slice of pie, an ice cream soda, or a thick milkshake.

Behind the diner you’ll find one of its most unusual features: Diner-saur Park. This free sculpture garden has ten-foot-tall metal dinosaurs, a giant King Kong, ponds with turtles and koi, and plenty of space to stretch your legs. Inside, the fun continues with a 5 & Dime Store packed with retro candy, souvenirs, and collectibles, plus a pizza parlor serving handmade pies.
