The museum operates on seasonal hours that change depending on the time of year. Typically, from February 1 through early October, the museum is open Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm (Closed Sundays). October through January it is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm (closed Sundays and Mondays). Call ahead to confirm.
The museum is closed on Sundays, state holidays, and during the first week of January.
What can you expect to see or experience at the museum?
The museum showcases the full story of Route 66 in Oklahoma and across the country, with themed exhibit rooms, period artifacts, vintage vehicles, and immersive environments set to musical soundtracks. Some highlights include a recreated 1950s diner, displays on the Dust Bowl era migration, and exhibits exploring motels, gas stations, attractions, and roadside culture along the “Mother Road.” Toward the end, there is a theater showing a Route 66 film before exiting through the museum’s gift shop.
