The Munger Moss Motel in Lebanon, Missouri was built in 1946 and you can still spend the night at this classic Route 66 motel on your road trip. The site originally operated as a filling station and restaurant (Munger-Moss Sandwich Shop) and the motel was added on after the business relocated, though it is the only part of the business that has survived today.

Originally, this Route 66 motel had 14 cabins with garages between the rooms. Through the years more units were built and the garages were filled in. Today the Munger Moss has 44 rooms and 16 efficiencies, including special Route 66-themed rooms.

The star attraction at the roadside motel is the giant neon Munger Moss Motel sign. The iconic shape is mimicked throughout Route 66 and is highly recognized icon of the Mother Road. In 2010, the neon sign was restored using a $10,300 National Park Service matching grant as part of the US Route 66 historic corridor preservation efforts. Even if you don’t book a room at the Munger Moss Motel, add it as a stop on your road trip itinerary to admire the classic neon!

Bob and Ramona Lehman owned the Munger Moss Motel since 1971 and have been offering a “home away from home” for Route 66 travelers for decades. Amenities include cable TV, free WiFi, ice, free coffee, a large shaded patio, and a CCTV security system.

As of 2025, this Route 66 motel is closed. Before Ramona Lehman passed away in 2023 the business was sold to The Dels Corp. The building is under renovation with the goal of being a mixed-use property. In 2025 the neon sign was donated to the city of Lebanon to maintain and renovate. It lights up every night from 8:00 PM to midnight.
