The Heartland of America Museum in Weatherford, Oklahoma, is a small museum that covers everyday life in western Oklahoma from the late 1800s through the 1950s and beyond.

Inside, the museum features more than 12,000 square feet of exhibits, with more than 32 major exhibits and dozens of smaller collections. You’ll find everything from Great Depression artifacts and World War I items to more modern military history, including a restored Vietnam-era Huey helicopter honoring veterans. Other highlights include a 1931 Ford Model A and displays focused on communication, transportation, and daily life.

Many exhibits are set up as themed spaces (like a general store, drug store, beauty parlor, and bedroom) with mannequins and memorabilia, making it easy to see how people lived and worked during different time periods. There are also collections covering SWOSU history, American Indian artifacts, toys and games, music, religion, and more.

Outside, the grounds continue with additional historic structures, including a one-room schoolhouse, a pioneer jail, and a blacksmith shop. One of the standouts is a restored Valentine Diner that once operated along Route 66. This diner, which dates to the early 1960s in its current form, replaced earlier diners at the same site in Weatherford. According to museum records, Elvis Presley stopped there multiple times and even signed the guest book in 1960.
