OklahomaRoadside Attraction

With a resurgence of Route 66 has come a resurgence in new Route 66 attractions. Many towns on the route are welcoming visitors with new roadside attractions and monuments erected to get you to pull over to take some selfies in town. El Reno Mother Road Monument in El Reno, Oklahoma was built for just that. The interactive background is made to capture the attention of motorists and provide the perfect social-media-friendly souvenir.

The El Reno Mother Road Monument was erected in 2018, just days before the town’s famous Fried Onion Burger Day festival. Designed by Oklahoma City business PremierCraft, it was created to provide a fun photo opportunity for Route 66 travelers. The idea for the giant Route 66 shield came from Mayor Matt White, who was inspired by other popular photo spots he saw on the Arizona stretch of the road.

The monument features a 10-foot tall black and white Route 66 shield with hollowed out double sixes. Visitors are encouraged to climb inside the 6 and the 6 to take fun Route 66 photos.

Visit this interactive sculpture where Route 66, the Rock Island Railroad, and the historic Chisholm Trail meet, on the corner of West Wade Street and South Choctaw Avenue, near the classic Sid’s Diner.

Adjacent to this Route 66 roadside attraction you’ll also find the Rock Island Railcar display and a Love Padlock display where visitors can add padlocks to a metal sculpture shaped like Oklahoma state with a Route 66 shield in the middle.
