Drive-Thru Route 66 Sign

Kingman, Arizona

ArizonaRoadside Attraction

Take a road trip selfie with you and your car at this Route 66 roadside attraction: the Route 66 Drive-Thru Shield in Kingman, Arizona.

For many years a temporary drive-through shield was erected in Kingman for the town’s annual Route 66 Fun Run. It was a popular stop for participants to get a commemorative photo and attracted the attention of year-round visitors who didn’t realize it wasn’t a permanent fixture. That popularity sparked the idea that maybe a more permanent solution should be erected in its place.

Legacy Signs was commissioned to create the structure and the permanent Route 66 Drive-Thru Shield was dedicated outside the Kingman Powerhouse Visitor Center on July 24, 2021 (National Drive-Thru Day). The roadside attraction was unveiled in a dedication and inaugural lighting ceremony followed by classic-car show participants lined up to drive through and christen it.

The Route 66 Drive-Thru Shield in Kingman, Arizona allows cars (under eight feet and without trailers) to drive a loop and go under and through the classic Route 66 shield. After sunset it gets even better when the neon lights illuminate the outline.

  1. Such a fun stop! Loved being able to take fun souvenir photos with my car here. I wish I had seen it all lit up (the sun set super late that day and I was too comfy in my motel room to leave again). NEXT TIME! But it is a worthy Route 66 photo op any time of day!
