Don’t pass up a chance to stop at Clanton’s Café in Vinita, Oklahoma, a true Route 66 institution that’s been serving up comfort food and hospitality since 1927. Whether you’re in the mood for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this classic diner is a must-visit along the Mother Road.

It all started when local farmer Grant “Sweet Tator” Clanton opened the Busy Bee Café back in 1927. Just a few years later, the name changed to Clanton’s Café, and by 1930, it found a home at the corner of Canadian and Vann. In 1947, the café moved to its current location, where it’s been dishing out hometown favorites ever since. The Clanton family kept the tradition alive through the decades, with Dennis Patrick and Melissa Clanton-Patrick becoming the current owners in 1997.

Clanton’s holds the title of the oldest family-owned restaurant in Oklahoma (and on Route 66). It’s fed generations of travelers with stick-to-your-ribs favorites like their famous chicken-fried steak (still made from the original recipe), chicken and dressing, calf fries (Rocky Mountain Oysters), juicy burgers, and homemade pies made from scratch daily.

The café even caught the attention of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, where Guy Fieri gave the place his signature stamp of approval.

Now, nearly a century later, the next chapter is coming into view. In 2025, Clanton’s Café was put up for sale for the first time in its long history. While the future is still being written, there’s hope the next owner will carry forward the legacy that’s made Clanton’s a beloved Route 66 stop for nearly 100 years.

Look for the bold red “EAT” sign on top of the building and bring your appetite. You’ll want to try just about everything on the menu.
