Chicken Boy in Los Angeles, California is a landmark with a playful twist. Standing 22 feet tall along Route 66 on North Figueroa Street, this fiberglass giant is a quirky twist on the iconic Muffler Man statues found across the United States. It’s half man, half chicken, and carries an extra-large soda in hands instead of the usual muffler, tire, or American flag.

Originally erected in the 1960s at a fried chicken restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, the Chicken Boy Statue quickly became a local landmark. When the restaurant closed in 1984, its future was uncertain. Artist Amy Inouye rescued the statue, and after years of careful storage and restoration, it was finally installed on the roof of her design studio in 2007.

Often called “The Statue of Liberty of Los Angeles,” the Chicken Boy Statue’s towering presence and whimsical charm continue to draw Route 66 travelers and fans of roadside attractions.
