Big Cowboy Boot

Shamrock, Texas

TexasRoadside Attraction

Find this Big Cowboy Boot roadside attraction in front of Grif’s Steakhouse in Shamrock, Texas (formerly Big Vern’s Steakhouse) on Route 66.

Located in a former CITGO station, Big Vern’s Steakhouse was once a Shamrock institution. Known for its juicy steaks and tasty beer bread, the restaurant offered a delicious night out for cross-country travelers and locals alike. Inside Big Vern’s, the Western decor featured Texas-themed murals, and outside this Shamrock, Texas attraction, a giant big red cowboy boot, was the centerpiece attraction. Unfortunately, the titular Big Vern passed away in 2019 and the steakhouse closed in 2020.

In 2023 a new restaurant, Grif’s Steakhouse, opened in the former Big Vern’s location and this big cowboy boot has been repainted. The now black and brown boot features a painting of a cowboy and Texas Route 66 shield.
