Atlanta, Illinois

IllinoisOutdoor Activities

This small park takes you on a walk through time. Atlanta Route 66 Park in Atlanta, Illinois celebrates the town’s history on The Mother Road.

Take a stroll through Atlanta Route 66 Park and have a picnic at the table overlooking a fun Route 66 mural. Explore a trail of local artifacts, like the original Ticket Office from the Atlanta Fair (1860-1929), a cornerstone from the former 1909 Atlanta High School, and a World War I memorial dedicated by the Atlanta Knights of Pythias from 1921.

Take a sip from a historic “bubbler” water fountain. Four of these fountains originally stood on the four corners of the downtown square in the 1930s (find another one down the street at the Land of the Giants Rest Stop at the American Giants Museum!).
