Will Rogers was an American vaudeville performer, radio commentator, newspaper columnist, humorist, and movie star born in Indian Territory near modern-day Claremore. Today, the town celebrates “Oklahoma’s Favorite Son” in several ways, including the interactive All I Know Is What I Read in the Papers Sculpture in downtown Claremore.

“All I Know Is What I Read in the Papers” takes its name from one of Rogers’ most famous quotes. Located in front of the Claremore Progress building in the city’s historic downtown, the bronze sculpture depicts a smiling Rogers sitting casually on a park bench reading the April 1, 1935, edition of the Claremore Progress newspaper. The piece is designed to be interactive, with plenty of room on the bench for visitors to sit beside Rogers, making it a popular photo stop.

The Will Rogers Reads a Newspaper statue was created by artist Sandra Van Zandt and dedicated on November 2, 1996.

Next to the statue, a plaque in the ground shares details about the monument, and a time capsule is buried beneath it. The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2046, fifty years after its placement.

The plaque reads:
