What is the 66 Super Service Station?
The 66 Super Service Station is a historic Route 66 gas station in the nearly abandoned town of Alanreed, Texas. Built in 1930 by Bradley Kiser, it was considered an unusually large service station for its time, featuring four gas pumps and two service bays.
Where is the 66 Super Service Station located?
The station is located at the corner of Main Street and Highway 271 (3rd Avenue) in Alanreed, Texas, a small community east of McLean along historic Route 66.
Is the station still operating?
No. The station ceased operations in 1982 after Interstate 40 bypassed much of the original Route 66 traffic. Today, it is preserved as a historic landmark rather than an active business.
Has the station been restored?
Yes. Preservation efforts have helped stabilize and partially restore the building. The station is maintained by the Texas Route 66 preservation community and continues to be a focal point for Route 66 heritage projects. Additional rehabilitation work has been ongoing.
